Privacy Policy

muktrip ("the Site") complies with the Personal Information Protection Act of the Republic of Korea and related laws. Reading the Site requires no account and no sign-in, and visitors are never asked to submit personal information. Author accounts are not open for public registration; they are issued directly by the site owner.

1. Information Collected

(a) Ordinary visitors — the Site does not collect personal information directly from visitors. The following may be generated automatically in the course of operating the website.

  • Access logs: IP address, access time, browser and operating system information (recorded automatically by the web server)
  • View and like counts: only a tally per post, per language, per day. No IP address, cookie, or device identifier is stored, so the Site cannot tell who read what.
  • Duplicate-like marker: a flag kept solely in your own browser so the same post is not liked repeatedly. It is never transmitted to the server.

2. Author Accounts

The Site does not accept public sign-ups; author accounts are issued by invitation from the site owner. The following is collected and held when an account is issued.

  • Account ID (an identifier in email form)
  • Name
  • Password — never stored in plain text; it is hashed in a form that cannot be reversed.
  • Display nickname (per language) — shown publicly as the author of a post.
  • Session cookie for staying signed in — issued only to signed-in members, never to ordinary visitors.

3. Location Data in Photographs

The capture location and time (EXIF data) of uploaded photographs are stripped from the image file when it is saved. Published image files therefore contain no coordinates.

The Site does, however, retain that location and time separately, and publishes them as a map of where and when the photographs were taken only where the author has enabled the photo route map for that post. The feature is off by default and must be switched on by the author for each post.

Authors should be aware, before uploading, that the place where a photograph was taken may become public in this way.

4. Purpose of Use

Automatically generated information is used solely to maintain service stability, prevent abuse, and diagnose failures.

Account information is used solely to identify the account, keep it signed in, manage authoring permissions, and credit the author of a post.

View and like counts are used only as statistics to understand which posts are read and to improve the content, never to identify an individual visitor.

5. Retention and Disposal

Access logs are retained for the period required by law or for operational necessity (up to three months), then destroyed without delay.

Account information is retained while the account exists and is destroyed without delay upon a deletion request or when the account is removed.

View, like, and banner counts contain nothing that identifies a person and are therefore held as statistics without a fixed disposal date.

Information held in electronic files is permanently deleted in a manner that prevents recovery.

6. Disclosure to Third Parties

The Site never sells or rents visitor information.

Once you follow an affiliate link (such as Coupang Partners) to an external site, that site's privacy policy applies and the Site bears no responsibility for it.

Information may be provided to law enforcement where a lawful request is made under applicable law and due process is followed.

7. Cookies and Similar Storage

The Site uses the following storage technologies. You may refuse or delete cookies in your browser settings; content remains fully accessible either way.

  • Session cookie: keeps a signed-in member signed in. Never issued to ordinary visitors.
  • Browser local storage: prevents a post from being liked more than once. Stored only on your device and never sent to the server.

8. Advertising

To measure the performance of banners placed directly on the Site, impressions and clicks are counted per banner per day. These counts store no personally identifying information (no IP addresses, cookies, or device identifiers) and therefore do not constitute personal information.

Once you click an advertisement or affiliate link and leave for an external site, that site's policies apply.

9. Your Rights

You may request access to, correction of, deletion of, or suspension of processing of your information at any time using the contact details below. Requests are handled without delay.

Members can edit some details, such as their display nickname, from their own account page; deletion of the account itself is handled by the site owner on request.

For ordinary visitors the Site holds only aggregate counts that identify no one, plus access logs, so minimal additional details may be required to locate the relevant records.

10. Children Under 14

The Site does not issue accounts to children under the age of 14 and does not knowingly collect their personal information.

11. Security Measures

The Site maintains the following safeguards.

  • Encryption in transit (HTTPS)
  • One-way hashing of passwords — not even the site owner can read the original.
  • Separation and minimisation of account privileges — administrative and authoring rights are distinct.
  • Location data (EXIF) is stripped from uploaded photos at save time and is never present in published image files

13. Changes to This Policy

Any change to this policy will be announced on the Site together with its effective date. Changes unfavourable to visitors will be announced at least seven days in advance.

The Korean version of this policy is the authoritative text; in case of any discrepancy, the Korean version prevails.
